Spreading her wings

Turning and looking back at the house she had called home all her life, SeaSea realised that a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She had finally done it, finally made the decision to step out from her brothers shadows, stop acting as the sidekick to their lives and adventures and finally become the star for her own life. Dropping her had to her side it comes into to contact with her ever faithful Growlithe, Xante's soft fur tickling against her fingers, she drops to her knees and throws her arms around her beloved pokemon's neck"This is it Xante, we're really going to do it!" she looks into Xante's eyes "Growls"is the positive responce she gets.

Together they head back across the meadow and into the house. What was once home to a family of seven, had become a lonely prison for SeaSea in recent year as she struggle to keep it running after the death of her mother and disappearance of her father. Her brothers ment well, but the four of them couldn't possibly understand that although she was good at careing for the sick and injured pokemon they brought to her, she dreamed of more and was desprate to find out what really happened to their father.

Walking round the house and checking everything she needs is in her backpack, she clips two pokeballs to her belt containing the last remaining pokemon her brothers had left as her eyes fall to a package deliver that morning. "how did I forget about that?"she asks herself. Quickly dispensing of the packaging she find a note from a dear old friend and a single poke ball. Eager to find out what he would have thought to send her, she glances round the house one final time before heading outside to start her new life.

SeaSea heads south on Route 32, she's studies enough maps growing up to know that this is a long and lonely path. With the city falling behind her she walks onwards, looking for a secluded meadow in which to stop and fully read the letter she got as she was leaving. After about thirty minutes of walking she sees the perfect spot, with a small brook running across the bottom corner and trees providing dappled shade down one side.

While Xante bounded across to drink from the brook and explore the meadow, SeaSea finds a large old tree and settles herself at the foot of it, sitting on the lush green grass and giving a wry chuckle and she sees Xante has found a batch of Berries, "piggy" she mutters affectionately to herself before reaching into her backpack and pulling out her letter.

It's from her dear old friend Sim. With a fond smile she remembers the small boy she played with as a child. Their fathers had adventured as young men and remained firm friends as they had families. SeaSea sighs as she thinks back to the days the pair would pretend to go on adventures to the bottom of the garden, thick as thieves and always returning home caked in mud. This was all years ago though. before her family moved back to Violet city, her mothers home. When she thinks about it, although they have always written letters, she hasn't actually seen him since he was about five and she tries to picture what sort of a man he's gown to become. Smileing as she reads about his latest adventure she can't help hoping they'll finally meet up again

Finally she rolls the pokeball he sent her in her fingers. He's never sent her anything other than a letter before and she's anxious to find out what he thinks she'd like. Swallowing hard, she stopps rolling the ball and hits the release button, sub-consciously closeing her eyes and holding her breath. Xante is on instant alert, by SeaSeas side in a flash watching the new pokemon curiously. It's obviously nervous and shows no sign of fight. SeaSea gasps as she recognises the Teddiursa, her favourite pokemon as a child and one she and Sim regularly used to pretend to catch. Recalling him back to the ball and naming him Bubble, SeaSea adds meeting up with Sim high on to her list of to do things.

Carefully repacking the letter and collecting the rest of her bits together, SeaSea heads over the the patch of berries Xante had found a few moments earlier and stores the few that Xante missed in the ties over her top. Heading back onto Route 32 she soon sees the Ruins of Alph appear on the horizon. She has heard her brothers talk excitedly of the adventures they have had in the caves, but SeaSea has other plans and tells herself that is the reason that she's going on past them, not that she was at all scared of what they might contain.

Ushering past the Ruins quickly, SeaSea and Xante head further south, humming the odd ditty and generally enjoying the freedom they have been craving for years. It isn't until later that she remembers the only way to get Azalea Town is through Union Cave. Her pace slows as they approach this obstacal, her skin loses its natural warmth adopting a cool and clammy feel instead. SeaSea swallows nervously and looks down to Xante, "Why am I so nervous about caves? It's totally ridiculous!"she scorns herself. Unsure of what is causing her fear SeaSea is cross with herself for being so silly and her head wins over her heart as she takes determined steps towards the dark mouth of the cave.

The cave reminds SeaSea of old houses, the air is damp and smells of mould. All her senses on high alert, every sound seems amplified to her, the drip of water running through the caves, even the small stones that scuff under their feet sound like danger to her. As her eyes adjust to the darkness SeaSea rapidly wishes she'd remembered this when she had set off from home, she's never liked caves and just the thought of them made her heart beat fast. "Breathe slow and deep"she commands herself, feeling the first fingers of panic starting to grip her. Xante can feel SeaSea's unease and goes to produce an Ember attack, but rather than aiming at any of the Zubats flying over head, she hold the attack back to produce a light by which to help guide them through the cave. With a deep sigh of relief SeaSea throws her arms around Xante's neck, "now why didn't I think of that! I'm sorry Xante, I'll be a better trainer for you" .

Managing to navigate further into the cave SeaSea starts to calm her pulse as she reaches halfway into the cave. She's guessing she has reached half way and the air has started to a hint of freshness to it, rather that continuing to become mustier and mustier. It is now she really begins to relax, and believes that the worst is over when a louder sound to her left catches both her and Xante's attention. It was the sound to small stones falling from a low height, and as Xante turns and casts some light in that direction to reveal a Sandshrew in the corner, obviously caught unawares and not happy about it as it assumes a defensive stance and growls out a harsh "SAND"

Keen to overcome this first hurdle well, SeaSea tries to think back to all the conversations her brothers and father had. Needing to act fast, she fumbles at her belt and collects a pokeball. Pressing the release button, Otto springs into action between her and the sandshrew. "Otto, use tackle" SeaSea commands confidently, more so than she is actually feeling. Otto, keen to prove that he is fit and ready to be part of SeaSea's team, pounces onto the sandshrew using his best tackle. The sandshrew, his day not going too well, acts on instinct and makes the defensive curl move.

Seeing the instictive actions of the sandshrew reminds SeaSea that ground type pokemon are weak against water moves. "use Water Sport" she says to Otto, biting her lip with anticipation. With Xante by her side continuing to cast light on the battle, Otto recoils back from the sandshrew, his attack having had no effect and the sandshrew using scratch against him. "OTTO!" SeaSea calls out. She can't bear to see any of her pokemon hurt. Gritting her teeth with determination she decides to give Otto another attempt.

"Sonic Boom now!" is her next instruction and Otto uses his tail the fire the attack at the sandshrew. The full force of the attack hit the sandshrew and it is throw back against the cave wall, giving a weak "sand" of defeat. Sensing her advantage, SeaSea grabs an empty ball and throws it at the sandshrew, smiling as it disappears inside but her nerves on edge as she watches it flash three time before going still. Walking over and collecting the ball, she strokes it lovingly. "I'm sorry Little one." she says affectionately to the ball before clipping it into her belt. SeaSea turns to Otto and scoops him into a hug, "you were spectacular" she praises him greatly before feeding him a berry and returning him to his ball.

Ruffling Xante's fur, the pair navigate the rest of the cave with a new confidence. They even break into a run as the mouth of the cave comes into sight and the burst out into the open space. Exceedingly pleased with themselves the head on into Azalea Town.
